A colorful bowl and others

This is a big size bowl with colorful line drawings on surface. I was expecting the colors to be a bit more clear but...I guess it's not too bad. I have been working with this style for a while, adding more patterns and I think it's becoming a little too much...So from now on.. it's time to reduce and make it imple but effective.
The last one is small plates with curving of plus marks. I'm calling them "plus series" and have been making cup and bowls as well.
カラフルな彫り絵で表面をかざった、大きめの鉢が焼き上がってきました。もう少し色の部分が濃くでるはずでしたが、まぁ、これくらいでも悪くないでしょう！　しばらくこのパターンで作品を作ってきましたが、こんな模様、あんな模様と、描き込めるだけ描き込んできた感じでした。そろそろ、削ぎ落としの段階なのではないかと感じています。シンプルにだけど、より効果的に。。。最後の写真は、小皿。大きさ的には取り皿に使えるぐらいのもの。プラスシリーズと名付け、やはり、彫りで細かいプラス柄を表面に描き込んである作品です。このシリーズでは、カップや鉢なども作っています。

Osaka

On the way back from Nara, I stayed at my freind's in Osaka for two night! I had a really relaxing time there. For the first day, since my friend had to go work, I was just walking around in the town taking pictures here and there. And the second day, we walked about 7 km to get Umeda and it was a quite long way...haha.
I found it interesting to walk around in the unknown town. I carefully look around and try to find something interesting, but if it was my hometown, I assume everything is the same, so familiar...well, it makes me think that being familiar takes one's curiosity away...that's kind of scary...

奈良からの帰り道、大阪の友達のお家に2泊して帰ってきました。とってもリラックスした日々でした。一日目は、友達がお仕事だったので、一人ぶらぶらと待ちを歩き、あちらこちらで写真をとって。。。二日目は、約７kmの長ーい道のりを、友達と二人、梅田まで、のんびり歩いたり．．．
そんななか、、、知らない街をぶらぶらと歩く楽しみを見つけました！何かないかな〜っと、興味深く街を見るとこって、当たり前の風景になってしまった自分の街ではあまりしないことなんですよね。慣れてこわいな。。。好奇心を奪ってしまうんだ、きっと！

Nara

A few weeks ago, my friend sent me email, saying that she wanted to travel somewhere...anywhere...haha So we decided to visit Tenkawa, which is the north side of Nara. We visited the shrine called "Tenkawa Daibenzaitensha" where the Goddess of Art is enshrined. We attended a seasonal festival there and had a very peaceful time. Since we stayed 2 nights there, we had enough time to visit the next village called "Dorokawa" known for having a lot of hot-spring hotels. It's only about 30 mins drive from Tenkawa Village. It's beginning of foliage season and the mountains are turning yellow, orange, and red...so beautiful! I believe the colors of autumnal leaves in Japan are much warmer and richer compare to the ones I saw in Boston. The time passes so slowly when the sounds one can only hear are the sound of the river running and the wind blowing into the mountains. It was a wonderful time... Well...tell you the truth...when I first realized that my cell phone didn't work in the Japanese-Style Inns where you stayed...I got panicked a little bit.... I'm so addicted with my iPhone and internet... I was really worried if I could keep my mind straight...haha, but I survived!!!
On the way back to Osaka, we also visited the Temple called "Yakushi-ji" in Nara. We arrived there about 45 minutes before the gate to be closed so we had to go look around very quickly. But the timing was so right! Since it was the sunset time, the sky started change its color and looking at these old buildings veiled with the big sky were so beautiful!!!

　数週間前に、友達からメールが届き、どこかに旅にいきたい〜！と。。友人が以前に行ったことのあるという、奈良の秘境、天川という町に行くことに決めました。そこには、「天河大弁財天社」市杵島姫命（いちきしまひめのみこと）、芸能の神を主祭神としてまつる神社があります。ちょうど私たちが訪れた日には、重陽の節句祭が行われていて、それに参加することもでき、素敵な時間を過ごすことができました。今回はのんびり２泊の旅だったので、隣町？となる、洞川、こちらは温泉街として知られる町にも足を運んでみました。ちょうど紅葉が始まりだしたこの季節、山の木々が、黄色、オレンジ色、赤色と色づき、とてもきれいでした。ボストンでの紅葉も何度か見る機会がありましたが、日本の紅葉に方が、色がとても優しく柔らかいような気がします。川の流れる音や、森をぬける風の音しか聞こえないような山の中では、時間の流れが違うように感じます。とても貴重な時間でした。実を言うと、宿ではiPhoneもネットも繋がらず、その事実に気づいたときには、一瞬パニックになりそうになりましたが．．．．なんとか持ちこたえました。
最終日、大阪への帰り道、奈良市内にある、薬師寺にもよってみました。閉館まであと４５分ぐらいで、到着した私たち。あまりゆっくりと見学することはできませんでしたが、タイミング的にはちょうど良く、夕暮れ時、グラデーションにその色を変える、雲一つない大空が、それぞれの塔をより一層引き立たせてくれていました。

Pretty Good, I Think!!

New pieces came out of kiln a few days ago. I'm feeling pretty good about the first small glasses with green line on the lip. I used blue line for wine glasses with black clay showing below but, green line can give more warmer feeling to it, yet still braces it up nicely. I really like how it came out!! What do YOU think???

数日前に、新しい作品が窯からあがってきました！一枚目の写真、口の部分にグリーンのラインが入っている作品、なかなかいいんじゃないかと思っています。黒土のワイングラス（右）には、口の部分にブルーのラインを入れてますが、それに比べてグリーンのラインは、暖かさも残しつつも、シャキッと作品を引き締めてくれているんじゃないかと思うんです。どう思う？？

sharing a good time with friends!

A very good friend of mine came to visit me yesterday with her sister. We had a good time together! Thank you!!! After the lunch, we finally went to the cafe called "Aoneko-blue cat". It's Jazz cafe where I wanted to go for a long time. The cafe's interior is so well decorated and its bathroom is my favorite spot...haha It's good to go with friends and also good to go by myself with a book, maybe. Oh, there is a book I'm trying to read now. The book called "What is Art" by Tsuneari Fukuda." It's really difficult book and I can only read 2-3 pages at once... I guess when I go next time, I will bring the book and try to read in surrounded jazz music!!!

昨日は、大好きな友達が妹さんと一緒に遊びにきてくれました！素敵な時間を過ごすことができました！ありがとう。 そして、ランチのあとにずっといきたかったジャズ茶房「青猫」さんにもいくことができました！内装がとってもこっていて、その中でも私のお気に入りは、おトイレでした！はは
使っている器やカップも作家もの。こだわりのある素敵なカフェです。友達といくもよし、一人でのんびりと本を片手に行くもよし、です。そういえば、読み始めたはいいけれど、なかなか読み終わらない本が一冊。「藝術とは何か」-福田恆存- これが難しい。。。ジャズ音楽に囲まれながら、読んだら少しは進むかしら？？？

ネバーランド『Finding Neverland』

My friend recommended this movie, called "Finding Neverland" played by Johnny Deep and Freddie Highmore. Freddie Highmore, who plays Peter in this movie is the boy who also plays in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny Deep. This film was made before "Charlie,,, so...it must have been the first time for them to play together. This boy is really good!!! The film is about J.M.Barrie who wrote "Peter Pan" in real life. The story is not truly based on how he was inspired to write "Peter Pan", but in the film, he meets a widow with 4 boys in a park. Barrie enjoy playing with kids but Peter,the third son, seems to be trying to grow up faster after his father passed away. To spend times with boys gives Barrie an idea for the story of "Peter Pan." Also the story is about friendship and tells importance of believing. It's a wonderful movie!
To believe... I was just talking with the friend who recommended this movie the other day. What we talked about was...the importance of imagination. I believe that what we imagine, we can make it to be realized. In the other words, if we don't think it could be realized, we don't even try to imagine...right?
So, to believe in oneself lead one to the unlimited imagination world and give the power to make things happen!!

友達に勧められ、ネバーランドという映画を見ました！ジョニーデップとフレディーハイモア。「チャーリーのチョコレート工場」でも共演したこの二人、この映画のほうが前なので、二人の初めての共演作という事でなるのでしょう。この少年、なんとも上手いです！映画は、ピーターパンの作者である、ジェームズ・バリのお話。話自体はフィクションのようで、このストーリーのようにして「ピーターパン」のアイディアが浮かんだわけではないようですが。。。映画のストーリーは、ある日、公園で未亡人とその４人の子供たちと出会うバリ。子供たちと、毎日のように海賊やインディアンごっこのような遊びをして楽しんでいた。しかし、３男のピーターは、父親を亡くした事が原因で、少年の心を押さえこみ、早く大人になろうとしているように見える。そんな少年たちとの日々をもとに「ピーターパン」を書き上げるというお話。少年たちのと友情、そして、信じるという事の大切さをも語った素敵な映画です。
信じること。。。ついこないだも、この映画を進めてくれた友達と話していたところなのだけれど、私たちって、想像できないことは実現できないと思うんです。逆にいえば、実現できないとおもうことは、想像すらできない、しないってことだと思うんです。だから！自分
を信じる事によって、想像の世界は無限に広がり、そしてそれを実現される為のパワーになっていくんだろうって、そう思うんです。

A lot happened!!??

It's been a while since I wrote here. A lot happened...?? maybe.... haha.
Well, well...what I was doing while I was gone... the first picture is wine glasses I was working on. Today I glazed them and they are ready to be fired in the next kiln. I'm very much excited about these pieces! The second picture with girl feet was taked at Osu. There was street performance festival in Osu, Nagoya and my friends came from Tokyo to see the festival. It was fun!!!
The third picture...can you tell?? it's a friend wearing my shirt!! What do you think?!!! It's really good on him, isn't it!! I'm glad that he likes it!!!
The forth and fifth pictures are pieces I showed here before firing. It's fired, yey!! but, got a crack again...umm.... Also, I'm not sure about the color of bottom...is it better with mat-black?? This green glaze is called Oribe and it's a quite shinny.. I don't like it to be too shinny... hum...I like the shape of it, thought...I will try to make another one soon!!!


しばらくぶりでございます。 ご無沙汰の間に、色々ありました。。。かな？？
ではまず。１枚目の写真は、新しいワイングラス。前とはちょっと形を変えてみました。今日すでに釉薬をかけ、次の窯に入れてもらえそうなので、出来上がりが楽しみです！
２枚目の写真は、『大須、大道町人祭』での写真。花魁道中があり、花魁下駄をクル〜ッとまわしながら歩く花魁さんの足もと、きれいでした！ほかには、金粉ショーとか、パントマイムとか、盛りだくさんのお祭りでしたよ！
3枚目写真。さて、お気づきですか？？　私の作ったシャツを友達が来てくれてます！どうですか？似合っているんじゃないですか〜？？
４．５枚目の写真は、以前焼かれる前の写真をここで紹介した作品。先日焼き上がってきましたが、これもひびが入ってしまった。。。
足の部分に、織部という緑色の釉薬をかけましたが、これはちょっと光沢のでる釉薬で、私的にはいまいち。。。やっぱり、黒のマットな感じが良いのかな〜？と思っています。形はけっこう気に入っているので、また再チャレンジしたいと思います！

I made the second shirt for the same friend!

I made the second shirt for the same friend! This is the last one for him for now...haha. I'm relieved. This time, I changed the shape of collar into round and added a little decorative design for stand part. Also gave 5 pin-tacks for each side in front, which took a while to get it done but I think it came out really nice!!! Actually I haven't sew shirts for a long time so I thought it wasn't painful and take a lot of time to make one but it didn't too difficult as I first thought. I just needed a good pattern then what I need to do is just sew, sew, sew as marked... no problem!!! When I get a chance, I should make my one!!...oops, before that, I have one more asked by another friend..Grreee!!

２枚目のシャツ、完成しました！とりあえず頼まれた２枚はできたので、一安心！　今回のシャツは、衿の形を丸くして、スタンドの部分も、飾りっぽいデザインにしてみました。あと、胸の部分の両サイドに５本のピンタック！　これが案外時間がかかったのですが、いい感じに仕上がったと思います！　久しくシャツなんて縫っていなかったので、かなり面倒な作業になるな〜っと思っていたけれど、思っていたよりかは案外あっさりとできました！　やっぱりちゃんとしたパターンがあれば、後は印通りに縫うだけ！簡単な事です！　また時間があったら今度は自分のシャツでも作ろかな〜〜！？？　あ！そういえば、違う友だちからもう一枚シャツを頼まれていたんだっけな。。。

Having a good time

Lately, I'm having a good time at ceramic studio. I love carving!!! The act of carving is also mark-making, and I guess I do like mark-making which could be considered leaving my evidence of that I'm（was) here??? hum...I used to make more conceptual art works while I was in school and at that time, I also did a lot of carving and mark-making work...it's just I'm comfortable with familiar technique?? I'm not sure... Today, I made small wine glasses. This might be a bit too small for wine, so might be good for aparitif! I'm looking forward to the result! Oh, today, my friend sent me a picture of him wearing the shirt I made! Isn't it cool or what!!! I think it looks really good on him!!! I'm making the second one for him with green fabric. The second one will be a bit more formal looking with pin-tack....hum...hope it will be done OK!!

最近、陶芸するのが本当にたのしいです。やっぱり、気づいていたけれど彫る事が好きなようです。どうしてでしょうかね？　彫るとは、ある意味、印を付けるということ。ここに私がいる（いた）という証みたいなものの印を何らかの形で残したいって重いの現れなんでしょうかね？？？ 学生の頃は、もう少しコンセプチュアルな作品を作っていたし、その頃はよく、そういった意味あいで彫りやマークメイキングという技法を使った作品を作りました。どうなんでしょうかね〜？　でも、とにかく彫るのは楽しいです。　今日もまた、ワイングラスというか、食前酒グラスぐらいのちっちゃめのグラスを作りました？？　また、焼き上がりに乞うご期待！
あ、あと、先日シャツを作った友だちから、着ている姿の写真がとどきました！いい感じじゃないですか？？？似合っていると思います！
明日は２枚目のシャツを作ることにします。既に購入済みの緑色の布、ピンタックをあしらって、少しフォーマルな仕上がりにしたいと思っています！

My friend asked me to make a shirt a while ago...when it was still hot...Now it's getting chilly and became a good season for a long sleeve shirt... said by the friend when we talked last time... haha So, finally, (maybe, it took too long to get started...but ), YES! I decided to make one for him! Ta-dah! It's done!! hope it fits YOU well!!!

友だちにシャツを作ってくれと頼まれていました。それはまだ、暑い夏の日の事でした。そろそろ涼しくなってきて、長袖シャツの季節ですよ〜。。と数日前その友人と話したときに。。。そうだよね！　やっと重たい腰をあげ（かなり長い事待ってもらっちゃいましたが。。。）ついにミシンに向かいました！ジャーン！完成です！！　フィットするといいね〜、ね！そこの君！！
